Tilt-shift effect with Photoshop CS 2
I am here to talk about tilt-shift effect with DSLR.
Tilt shift lens allow you to change the angel from which you are viewing the subject. It is actually made up of two different words that serve different purposes.
The first is Tilt, the rotation of the len relative to the image plane. It allows you to change the focal point of the photo.
Second is Shift, movement of the lens parellel to the image plane. It changes the line of sight and thus, prevent lines from converging. Like taking photos of roads or tall buildings, notice the further ends tend to merge together? Shifting the lens can help to prevent so.

Step 1:
You have to convince people that it is a miniture that they are seeing. Minitures models are always well lit, directional shadows, viewed from above and also depth. Look for a photograph with such qualities.
Step 2:
In photoshop, use [Quick Mask] mode to set the [Gradient] to [Reflected Gradient]. Set the default color to Black on top & White at the bottom.
Step 3:
Use [Gradient] tool to click on the focal point of your shot, than drag it towards the top of your image. You can play around with it to get the desired effect. When you are happy, exit [Quick Mask] mode.
Step 4:
Now that you have selected the area to be blur, use the [Blur Filter] to adjust how much blur you want.
Step 5:
Once you have set the blur, we can play with the colors. Minitures are normally very strong and rich in the colors. Use [Curves] or [Color] to adjust the photo accordingly.
Step 6:
Once you are done, you may crop the shot to suit your need and it's time to show people your shot. A nice miniture created with Photoshop.
Last Words:
There are many other ways to create such an effect using the wide variety of photo editing software. The basic concept is still the same. Bluring the top and bottom of the photo, make the color stand out and lastly, make sure it look like a real miniature.
