SMRT Bishan Depot Open House
Today I brought Ling to the SMRT Open House. It's held at Bishan Depot, so we took a train from AMK straight into the depot.
On our way...
weeeee..... we moved off the usual track that brings us to bishan.... now we're heading into the depot..
Along the way i saw a service train.... dont think many people have seen it before, but here it is....
The main purpose of these trains is to go around the tracks scaning for damages, if there are major damages, they will replace the whole length of the track.... The staff works everynight while we sleep to ensure a smooth ride the next day.
We went into the main control building and the first thing we do was to watch a SMRT coperate video about how good they are, what they do, why they are needed, why we should take more train rides, why we should make them richer.... ops.. nvm.... anyway, after the "propegandish" video, we were lead to a room containing a mock up of the train simulator...
They actually have a panel of blubs which shows the staff where the train are at the time. and you can see the light move as the train moves.... Well, what we saw was only a fake one.... (Of course) the real one is actually at their HQ, the short bownish building beside Raffles City, directly outside CityHall MRT... quite a obvious building, cause got the company logo there...
Anyway, after the toy trains, we were once again, lead along a long long corridoor to a far far away factory....
Here we are, at the factory where they realy tear apart the whole train, clean it, and put it back again... it's called 'Overhaul'
here, we are shown the different type of aircons... really, i don't care about the TYPE of aircon... i am more concern about why it's not cold when i want it to be cold, and freezing when i want it to be hot.... :(
than we are shown the wheels.... and how it can actually be deadly if you ever cross it's path.. :( scary...
One of the best part of the tour is that we are actually allows to peek into the drivers' cabin. yipee.... but we can't control the train la...
Here's a picture of the control panel.... pretty rare to ever see it.. :D
and the panel behind it
thereafter, we walk out of the train through the emergency exit.. seems like a normal exit for the technicians...
after we walk out of the train, i look at the giant killer wheels....
DAMN... I SWEAR IT'LL HURT... i'll stay further away from the platform edges in future... just in case i dont feel well or a idiot kick me or i wanna kiss the wheels.......
before we leave, we are allow into the driver cabin again and i see what the driver might see...
At the end of the day, I find the trip worth it.. there are many other things that we went throught, like the different generation of fare gates.... (like i really care about the machine which take MONEY out of my pocket) well.... i did learn that the Ez-Link card is NOT totally tamper proof... as long as you have the reader and some bit of programming knowledge (like me) you can actually fool around with it.. but it's illegal... i don't think i can ever win a law suit against SMRT... not with theie millions of rider everyday and ever rising fares... :(
so glad and lucky got ger ger to pei me lo... haha... she not the factory type of person ma... andt i know that the money paid for the trip goes to some charity.. not SMRT.... haha... :D
end of the day we get to keep this as a gift from SMRT...
