Sentosa
today we had yet another trip to Fort Serapong, Sentosa...
this time round we have a smaller group... and we planned to venture down the unknown hole from the buttom... :D
Yunru, Ling and Ru's Sis.
we took the sentosa express to the beach station and proceed on a walk towards our destination...
along the way, we took some wrong turn and ended in Amara Santuary Resort....
they are the FIRST to use the tub....
it was kind of amazing to realise that the developers have maintained the air raid shelters... maybe it's their conditions...
after all, they have refurbished the colonial buildings into resorts....
ya, like we don't know.... or was that meant for the tourist? hmmm....
look, a peacock!!! they litter the whole island... it's amazing if you NEVER see one in sentosa...
For this particular trip, we go up the hill from our usual exit, the hillside path... we were sort of lost for a while before we locate the main trail... than we pass by the reservoir and pass the old fortification and further up....
then we reach the stairs.... malcolm tan remembered the lower entrance to the bunker at the second landing, so he went into the thick undergrowth to check it out first... after around 15mins or so, we realised that it's the wrong landing... we didn't realise that there was another stairs landing further up...
once malcolm hit the bush, he knew instinctively that it's the right path, hence, we all follow him forward, in to the undergrowth, away from safe paths for the next hour....
we trek for a short distance before coming to a clearing where we can distinctively mark out the fortification and the entrance.... it's a long straight tunnel that leads all the way in where our poor torches can reach. nonetheless, since malcolm was in there before, we march in in a single file....
the tunnel is about 150-200m long when it make an adrupt turn to the right... and we find the path ahead blocked by the fallen ceiling... the concrete slab that used to protect the metallic framework have found it's way to the ground, much of the walls have collasped too...
the fallen walls
there were many writings on the walls which shown that many people have been here before us, but none too recent... the latest we caught was 1992...
so, that's so much for the hidden tunnel... we make our way out and up to the gun site... along the way, we have to climb beside the service reservoir's fence.
than we came across a notice board that proof that the government, or someone, is aware of this place and visitors like us....
the nature reserve???
you can see how the sign board overlook the service reservoir
we walk further pass the gun sites and took a break at the concrete slope
the three sisters
me and me wife
the concrete slope was made in a way that the rain water will flow all the way down the slope into the reservoir below..

here, you can see a satallite photo of the area we are in. the grey patches are the concrete slope. See the scale of it!!!
when we had rest enough, we made our way into the serapong main tunnel complex
a step we have to take to see the 'lifts'
the storage area, we came in from the far end, where there's a hole for lights.
malcolm tan in the tunnel, you can see the electrical wirings lining the walls. these are additions to the fort when electricity was introduced.
since there isn't much new things for us to see, we made our way out and pass the guns facing east. This was the initial seranpong guns before the newer one were build.
ru and ru's sis in the gun position.
so, we left the fort thereafter and lucky us, managed to hitch a ride on a outgoing lorry, these malaysia drivers are MUCH better than the singaporeans who didn't even cared to look at us...
since it's still early, a few or us (actually, just malcolm, ru, ru's sis, me wife and me la....) took a short detour to Fort Siloso... the best maintained fort of the 5 on the island. (of which 2 are destroyed and 2 abandoned)
we had a group picture in front of the siloso trolley bus... this bus actually brings you right into the heart of siloso for you to begin your tour....
Fort Siloso.....
me sitting on one of the three guns placed in front of the visitor arrival place... these guns were not here during the war years... but moved to promote the fort... i forgot from where le..
We went to the exhibits to understand more about the construction and the whys of forts... why got hole here, why got box there etc etc....
ru molesting a british soldier...
a spy cam caught 3 visitors watching the exhibit...
a illegal labourer helping the british sink the japanese ships that weren't arriving...
we found some stones on the floor which was similiar to those we found at serapong...
hmmm.. so it wasn't modern... the stones at our feet, not us...
we went throught the whole of fort siloso and find it very interesting...
anyway, once we were done, we proceed to the bus stop immediately outside the modernised fort... WHEN, the call of nature urge us to find a wash room....
which cause us to to catch the peacock that's prety excited....
than we sneak a peek at the underwater world....
cute turtles....
this stingray is special.. it breathe air, not water...
the new Sentosa Express that brings us back to VivoCity...
it's been a long day.. but we can still stand... :D
